frequently asked questions about bedding
what is the best bedding for each season?
Whether you’re relaxing in the day or getting to sleep at night, the best bedding for you will change throughout the year as the seasons change.
For Spring, you may want to use a 4.5 tog duvet to ensure you stay cool at night while keeping a blanket on standby for those colder nights at the start of the season. For those who suffer from allergies this time of year, anti-allergy bedding will help ensure you can sleep undisturbed each night.
For Summer, a duvet with a 4.5 tog is often best to ensure you stay cosy and cool. Duvet covers and mattress toppers which focus on cooling and airflow, such as the Silentnight Airmax and cooling ranges, are often best for comfort in summer.
For Autumn, a 4.5 tog duvet paired with a warming blanket or throw is perfect for staying cosy as the nights get darker. If you’re someone who is frequently cold during the night, then a 10.5 tog duvet may be more suitable.
For Winter, a 10.5 tog duvet is perfect for providing comfort and staying warm. An electric blanket or weighted blanket is also perfect for keeping you toasty when it’s cold outside.
where can I buy hotel-quality bedding?
Silentnight’s range of bedding includes the Hotel Collection Duvet and pillows, as well as mattress toppers designed to bring the comfort and luxury of a hotel room to your home.
what is a good thread count for bedding?
The best thread count for bed sheets is typically between 200-400. Lightweight bedding with a count of 150-200 is perfect for sleepers who prioritise breathability, whereas counts of 300-500 are heavier and offer even more luxury and comfort.
should I wash new bedding?
Yes, to ensure your bedding is clean and free from any dust, residue, or allergens, you should always wash your bedding before you first use it. Freshly washed bedding is also softer, guaranteeing a better night’s sleep.
what temperature should I wash bedding at?
You should always check the manufacturer’s recommended temperature before you wash your bedding however, 40°C for general hygiene washes. To remove allergens and bacteria effectively, you should wash your bedding at 60°C, especially pillows and mattress covers.
how do I recycle bedding?
Bedding items such as blankets and duvet covers can often be recycled at local recycling centres and textile banks however, you should always check online before taking your bedding to one of these. Clean or unused bed linen sets may also be donated to charity shops and other similar organisations.
For pillows, duvets and other larger bedding items, you may be able to recycle these at household recycling centres, but not all facilities accept these. Some charities such as animal shelters may also accept donations of clean duvet and pillows.
